In this project, new mechanical equipment was installed at RMIT's Building 80 on Swanston Street in Melbourne. Due to the constraints imposed by the busy tram lines along Swanston Street, meticulous planning was essential. To address this challenge, a 250-tonne slew crane was strategically positioned in a narrow street behind the building, enabling lifting operations without disrupting the tram network or local traffic.

Key equipment, including 3,500 kg tanks and 5,600 kg heat pumps, was safely hoisted onto the building's roof deck using the crane. Once on the rooftop, the equipment was maneuvered into place by skating it across the roof to the Swanston Street side of the building. This approach allowed for smooth and precise handling, avoiding the need for additional crane operations.

A specially prepared wall penetration on the Swanston Street side provided direct access to the plant room. The equipment was carefully brought through this opening and positioned within the plant room. Inside, the equipment was rigged onto newly constructed concrete plinths, ensuring a stable and secure installation.

After the successful installation of the equipment, the wall penetration was expertly reinstated to restore both the building's structural integrity and aesthetic appearance. The project was completed efficiently with meticulous attention to detail and minimal disruption to the surrounding urban environment.
